SONGS OF ENTANGLEMENT
Music for contemporary dance, Black Box teater (2018)

In Songs of Entanglement, the choreographers, performers and identical twins Julie Solberg and Cecilie Solberg Knudsrød puts their own twin relationship at stage and plays with the expectations of the audience. As twins, they are often viewed as some sort of ready made, a view they put to play. Digging in their own personal voices, songs, rituals and the power of the twin as symbol and myth, they set out to capture the existential themes already at play in the relation of twins, as well as in the audiences´ fantasy.

The music for this performance was developed with the performers Julie Solberg & Cecilie Solberg Knudsrød. The music was gradually built from improvisation with the two performers and deep dives into Norwegian folk music archives and the hymns by Hildegard von Bingen. The music is performed a cappella by the two performers. The music utilizes extended vocal techniques and ranges from soft humming, lazerlike sopranos and overtone singing, to powerful roars and guttural sounds.
